Goal:  Host a Socratic Seminar to review Book #6 Agenda:  Read Socratic Expectations Socratic Seminars Phrases to help you with paraphrasing:  So you are saying that.... I heard you say...Was that right? So basically you think...because... In other words, I mean that... Phrases to help with extending the conversation:  Say more about that... How does that relate to... How do you know... What makes you think that... Can you explain more about... I'm still wondering about... Can you elaborate on the part about... Remember, we are scoring you on the following:  Reminders: Check your English Journal. Do you have two entries for second semester? Did you finish reading Possibility of Evil? We will be doing some writing about it tomorrow and Thursday.

Goal:  Complete your Socratic Prep doc for Book #6 Book Review and write an Article of the Week Agenda: Read Review of Book #6 AOW Review of Book #6: We're reviewing Book #6 in a DIFFERENT way! You found this out yesterday, so today is your day to finish preparing. You should have a hard copy of the Socratic Book Review document we gave you in class yesterday. If you prefer it digitally, you can make a copy  HERE , but you must print it on your own before class on Monday . When we score you, you're getting TWO scores: one for your prepared document and one for your participation in the Socratic Seminar. Some factors of your score are:  Do you talk about your book?  Do you reference a theme in your book and explain it?  Do you ask questions that extend the conversation?  Do you build on your classmates' questions? Goal:  Review and sort words from an upcoming reading to make predictions about the text. Agenda: Read Reading Progress Update Probable Passage Activity Check for Understanding Reading Progress Update Complete the  READING PROGRESS FORM   about your current book, which should be #7. Consider those reading challenges we showed you yesterday when choosing your books. Probable Passage:  1. With your partner get this   Probable Passage document.   ( One  of you make the copy and  share   it with your partner. Share it with Ms. Love and Mrs. R, too!) 2. Sort the words into the plot profile categories and then use those words to write a prediction for the story we will read tomorrow. 3. Paste your prediction (gist statement) into your English Journal. Reminders:   Reading is always your homework.  We'll be writing about Book #6 later this week, so make sure you're ready.  We're at the start of the semester and it's your time to shine...

Goal:  Learn about new reading challenges and take an assessment Agenda:  Read Reading Challenges District Assessment Reading Challenges This semester, challenge yourself by going outside your comfort zone and introducing yourself to new material! FAST Assessment Today we need to take a quick reading assessment. I will give you  instructions  in class.  You will need headphones.  Wait for instructions so we can walk you through the process of logging in.  This test is really helpful in determining the kind of curriculum you encounter in your school journey. Show what you know! Reminders: Welcome to a new semester! We love a fresh start!  Cumulative grades start over.  Homework is always to read! Book #6 should be done by today, and you should have a great book for Book #7.
